Two42 Leader Commitment
Serving as a leader for Two42 is a privilege. It should be taken very seriously. Leaders are in a place of responsibility in the church and are expected to be examples in faith and conduct. Maintaining a high standard for volunteers is one of the best ways to present Christ to the people of our church and our community. The following guidelines will be expected of any person who is a CG leader in the college ministry at Brazos Fellowship:
- The leader must have a clear understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and must have trusted in Christ as his/her personal Savior.
- The leader commits to being in a Discipleship Relationship. All leaders are required to participate in a D Group. Leaders must also be committed to personal time with the Lord on a regular basis.
- The leader commits to participating in a student coaching relationship. Each leader commits to meeting with a student coach once a month in a coaching relationship. You should also be in contact with them at least once a week for accountability and encouragement. This relationship should serve as an asset to leading within Two42 and pursuing Christ.
- The leader must commit to regular weekend service attendance at Brazos Fellowship. Community is more than just a trendy word. It is a necessary reality for each of us as we grow in our relationship with Christ. It is critical that we join together with each other on a regular basis to grow. Brazos Fellowship must be your church home and you must commit to attending weekly on Sundays.
- The leader agrees to a life of sexual purity. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. (Eph. 5:3) Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy, between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex. (Heb. 13:4) We are asking you to avoid co-ed sleepovers of any kind. Reference the Leader Purity Pledge.
- The leader agrees to not use illegal/unauthorized drugs or be mastered by any addictive substances. Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. (1Cor. 8:9,12)
- The leader agrees to confidentially care for the individuals entrusted to them. As leaders we are placed into tough situations sometimes. It is critical that trust is fostered at all times. If a leader feels that a situation requires more input, they should go to Chris or their student coach.
- The leader agrees to resolve all conflicts immediately and directly with the individual they are in conflict with. This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God. Or say you’re out on the street and an old enemy accosts you. Don’t lose a minute. Make the first move; make things right with him. After all, if you leave the first move to him, knowing his track record, you’re likely to end up in court, maybe even jail. (Matt. 5:23-25) Honor is our calling. Let’s honor each other.
- Alcohol Purchase & Consumption Our ministry includes many under the age of 21, and students at a variety of maturity and experience levels. For these reasons, it is important for us as leaders, representatives of Brazos Fellowship, and more importantly of Jesus Christ, to be above reproach in this area. As a result, we want to encourage anyone in leadership with Two42 to exercise wisdom & discretion in the purchase or consumption of alcohol. In terms of specific situations, we can state clearly that …
– You must be over 21
– You should not get drunk
– You should never provide alcohol to underage individuals
– You should not provide or consume alcohol at any designated Two42 event or with students you are leading even in an informal setting
– The abuse of alcohol is grounds for removal from leadership. So please, ask Chris if you are unsure how to handle specific situations. - The leader is responsible for abiding by the attendance & time commitment expected of them. Leaders are expected to be present when their role is needed for ministry events. This is further spelled out in our Attendance & Time Commitment.
