Toddler 2 (Older Toddlers)
Early Childhood represents a time of rapid physical and mental development. Older toddlers are walking well, showing signs of readiness to potty train, and beginning to notice the world around them. They are just learning how to play with others, and developing the ability to listen for a few minutes. At Brazos Fellowship we use this developmental stage to INCITE WONDER about God and his creation in the hearts of children. Our First Look Curriculum, part of a program called Orange*, gently introduces toddlers to three essential truths:
- God loves me;
- God made me; and
- Jesus wants to be my friend forever.
As toddlers enter the space each week, they find a room full of stations that allow for a variety of physical activities. At this age, children are able to focus for small moments throughout the hour. Accordingly, we encourage brief windows of singing, movement, listening to short stories, and simple crafts, interspersed with lots of free play.
A simple monthly Bottom Line reinforces the point of the lesson, then kids are sent home with Parent CUEs to assist in applying the story at home during the week. Because parents have so much more time with kids than we do, we understand what happens at home is more important in the spiritual development of a child than what happens at church.
Ready for your kids to experience Brazos Kids for themselves? We look forward to meeting you in person soon!
